The 39-year-old was appointed as the Tigers head coach in November 2022, returning to the club where he made 161 appearances between 2010 and 2015.

And despite just missing out on the play-offs this season to Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion on the final day, the decision was taken to look at alternative options ahead of the new campaign, with owner, Acun Ilicali, citing a difference in the team's style of football as the reasoning for his sacking.

Rosenior had just signed a new three-year deal at the MKM Stadium in December last year, and was also nominated for the EFL Manager of the Year award.

Following the news of Rosenior's shock departure, a number of candidates have been linked with a move to Humberside ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

A report by Hull Live claims that Sheffield Wednesday's Danny Rohl is one name on the Tigers' list of targets, along with Queens Park Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes and ex-Nottingham Forest chief Steve Cooper.

Sky Deutchsland reported on Thursday that former Hamburg head coach Tim Walter, who was sacked by the German club in February, is another name linked with a move to the Tigers.

And having been linked to the vacant Sunderland job for much of the season, former Reims manager Will Still is now one of the favourites to replace Rosenior at the MKM Stadium.

Carlton Palmer: Steve Cooper a good bet

Carlton Palmer believes that former Nottingham Forest coach, Steve Cooper, is the man Hull should look to be targeting as their next manager.

The 58-year-old, who spent one season at the City Ground during his playing career, believes it is unlikely that Danny Rohl and Marti Cifuentes will leave their respective roles at this moment in time, and cited the Welshman's achievements with the Reds during the 2021/22 season which saw them return to the Premier League.

"Hull City are looking for a new manager after, surprisingly, Rosenior was sacked by the club," Palmer started.

"Yes they missed out on the play-offs on the last game of the season and maybe the chairman is looking at the fact he invested heavily in the January transfer window with high profile signings such as Ryan Giles, Anass Zaroury and Fabio Carvalho.

"But I don't think anyone expected Liam to be relieved of his duties. Hull played a really good style of football and the chairman has cited footballing reasons for him being sacked - I think it is absolutely amazing that he's lost his job given the job he has done at Hull City.

"Linked to the job is Danny Rohl, who has done a fantastic job at Sheffield Wednesday and guided them to safety in the Championship. The same for Cifuentes at QPR, and Steve Cooper has emerged as a candidate.

"I can't see Danny Rohl leaving Sheffield Wednesday if everything is alright with the chairman there. It is a massive club, and he's already a hero worshiped there.

"I can't see Cifuentes leaving QPR. Steve Cooper is available. Obviously, there is money to spend, and you will have to find out what the chairman is looking for that Liam Rosenior was not aligned with. I think it's simply to do with the fact he didn't get into the play-offs, and they expected to be there given the money that they spent.

"Another target which I think is a likely one is German coach, Tim Walter. He's available after being sacked by Hamburg, so there is no compensation because, obviously, compensation would have to be paid for Cifuentes and Danny Rohl and those clubs won't allow those two managers to go cheaply.

"Steve Cooper, we know, did a fantastic job at Nottingham Forest without a lot of money and getting them promoted. When he took over, they were languishing at the bottom of the league.

"I always say that Steve Cooper is a good bet. I think he's a good bloke and a good manager. I am surprised he has been out of work for this long since his sacking at Nottingham Forest."
