Toby Alderweireld has three more years remaining on his Tottenham deal but he is already planning for his future.

With his contract expiring, Spurs team-mate Jan Vertongthen appears set to return to Ajax this summer after eight years.

Alderweireld will be 34 when his current deal runs out in 2023 but sees himself going back to his homeland as opposed to a second stint in the Netherlands.

“I am thinking about returning to Belgium afterwards. I just miss Belgium,” he told Sporza.

“I was trained at Germinal Ekeren and Beerschot. I am a Beerschot supporter, but I am also a huge fan of Antwerp football as a whole.

“I am happy that the Antwerp teams are starting to mean something in Belgium.”

Alderweireld joined Ajax from Beerschot in 2004 at age 15 and spent nine years at the club before sealing a move to Atlético Madrid.
