Christoph Preuß and Alex Meier stopped over in New York on Eintracht’s behalf at the weekend, with a joint EFC evening delighting some oversees Eagles supporters.

‘Footballing legend’ goes Stateside

Twenty members from a variety of Eintracht Frankfurt fan clubs from across the USA met in a pub in New York City as part of an EFC New York initiative at the weekend. Tom Frähmke – co-founder of the EFC New York, which was started in February 2019 – said it was “wonderful to be able to meet the footballing legend that is Alex Meier, and Christoph Preuß here. It’s incredible how far people have travelled.” Indeed, fans arrived in the Big Apple from as far away as Arizona, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

The enthusiastic hosts welcomed everyone warmly and had plenty of gifts for their heroes of yesteryear, including their own scarves. In return, there were also presents from Eintracht for everyone who attended.

Oliver Micknass, co-founder of EFC Carolina, was delighted to be at the event: “Awesome! A childhood dream has come true for me,” he said. “Alex Meier, footballing legend. And Christoph Preuß. Seeing the boys from Eintracht here, as well as our friends from the other EFCs. This is amazing. What a huge party!”

After an Eintracht quiz and several hours of conversation, it was time to say goodbye – but not for long, as the Eagles will be holding their summer training camp in Louisville from 22 July to 3 August.

“We chose a destination that was as accessible as possible for all Eintracht fans in the USA,” said Preuß, who was very taken by the “many great conversations” he had and “what is being organised here, and is growing and growing”. The Eintracht ex-pats in the USA have already announced a reunion. Oliver Micknass, for example, travelled nine hours from Carolina to New York. All for Eintracht.
