Norwich City are expected to complete the signing of Pape Amadou Diallo from Metz this week, with Watford having tried to sign the attacker.
Norwich City are set to win the race to sign Pape Amadou Diallo from Metz in a deal that is worth in excess of £4m. The expectation is that the deal is concluded in the next 48 hours.
The 21-year-old winger made the move from Senegal to Metz in the summer of 2023, and he has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the French side.
The majority of those came in the previous campaign, as Diallo featured 28 times in Ligue 2 as Metz won promotion back to the top-flight, with the attacker finding the net seven times.
Such form in front of goal, as well as Diallo’s speed and direct style, put him on the radar of clubs, and it was reported that Watford had agreed a £4.3m deal to sign the player.
However, it was then revealed that Norwich were trying to gazump the Hornets, with Diallo seemingly set to make a big decision on his future, although Watford have since brought in Nestory Irankunda from Bayern Munich.
And, in a fresh development, it has been confirmed that Diallo is set for Carrow Road, as journalist Paddy Davitt revealed that there is a ‘growing confidence’ the move could be finalised in the next 48 hours.
This is an exciting addition for Norwich, who are in need of attacking reinforcements after they sold Borja Sainz to FC Porto in a £14.25m deal.
As well as that, Josh Sargent is set to join Wolfsburg for over £20m, so the Canaries will be losing their two star men from last season, even if the arrival of Mathias Kvistgaarden from Brondby does look like a real coup.
Nevertheless, further additions are required to boost Liam Manning’s squad, and Diallo looks like the sort of player who can make a difference.
His pace means they will have a threat on the break, and whilst there are areas of his game that must be refined, he is someone with enormous potential, and he has the ability to get even better in the years to come when you consider how young Diallo is.
Of course, Norwich fans will feel further signings are needed to replace the output of Sainz and Sargent, but it’s a positive start to the window, and they should be in a position to add more new recruits now the major outgoings are sorted.
