Morocco made history by qualifying for the next round of the FIFA World Cup by beating Canada and taking advantage of the 0-0 draw involving Croatia and Belgium.
This is the first time in the 21st century that an African side has topped a World Cup group, as Morocco rode on goals from Hakim Ziyech and Youssef En-Nesyri to beat Canada.
Amrabat proves himself again
When Sofyan Amrabat was linked with a move to Tottenham from Fiorentina, there were doubts about him despite a great spell at Verona. But the midfielder has showed what he is all about and he impressed once again against Canada, winning three ground duels, making as many tackles and interceptions. It isn’t new for him, as he also impressed in games against Belgium and Croatia earlier in the tournament.
Canada disappoint again
While Canada had done well against Belgium, they failed to impress in the last two games. They have created chances for themselves in games but their defensive basics have often let them down and the same was the case even today, as their midfield seemed lightweight.
Ziyech is vital for Morocco
Hakim Ziyech isn’t having the best of times at Chelsea but he has made a mark in the World Cup. He scored today and it was a delightful finish and he had a good game too. And considering his performances in the last two games, he will be vital for them in the next round.
