Three players who struggled as Chelsea squeak to win over Villa

Chelsea got the win against Aston Villa at the weekend, but it was a tough battle and the team didn’t play well overall.

The left side struggled in particular, and Ben Chilwell, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marc Cucurella all had poor games.

WhoScored had Cucurella down as a 6.5 rating, which was still better than Chilwell, who got a 6.3, and Aubameyang who got a pretty dire 5.9.

The whole team struggled with the absence of Reece James down the right, not only because he’s usually such a key part, but also because Graham Potter was forced to constantly tweak his system to try and find a solution.

Those changes only served to make things more difficult for the players on the pitch in the end, and it will be important for Potter to find a way of playing without James, as there will be likely ten games or more played before he’s back.
