Three Inter Milan players have already gotten the better of Man City coach Pep Guardiola across various different clubs.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
City are not only arguably the team with the strongest squad in the world. The Premier League champions also have a coach who many view as the best in the business.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has priased his opposite number as being exactly that.
The 47-year-old Nerazzurri boss makes no secret of his admiration for the way that Guardiola has changed football.
The City coach has been working at the very highest level for a long time, too.
Before he joined City in the summer of 2016, Guardiola coached Barcelona for four seasons and Bayern Munich for three.
At both clubs, he drew praise and built teams that earned reputations as among the strongest in Europe.
Inter will come up against one of Europe’s absolute best teams in the final on Saturday.
However, that has been the case for Inter players before, and that hasn’t stopped them from getting victories over the Spanish tactician.
First, there’s midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenian was a Borussia Dortmund player whilst Guardiola was in charge of Bayern Munich. And, on three occasions the Corriere note that Mkhitaryan’s Schwarzgelben have managed to get the better of Guardiola’s all-conquering Bayern.
Then, there is striker Edin Dzeko.
In something of a twist of fate, the Bosnian had been a City player whilst he got his win over Guardiola.
Dzeko was part of the Man City team that beat Guardiola’s Bayern in the Champions League.
Lastly, Romelu Lukaku had something of a penchant for being on the winning side against Guardiola as well.
And, unlike Mkhitaryan and Dzeko, he did so when the Spaniard was in charge of City.
Lukaku beat City in the Premier League as both an Everton and a Manchester United player.
