A free agent since June 30, 2025, after five seasons at Arsenal, the Ghanaian international is set to return to La Liga. According to the latest reports, Thomas Partey and Villarreal have already reached an agreement and are close to finalizing the 32-year-old’s arrival at the Yellow Submarine. Indeed, the Ghanaian international midfielder is facing five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, for alleged incidents that took place between 2021 and 2022 in London. On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Partey appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court for a preliminary hearing in the case. This development is holding up the official announcement of his move to Villarreal.
Villarreal’s management has stated they intend to respect the presumption of innocence, while closely monitoring any legal developments in the case.
