Anderlecht are set to be without former Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla midfielder Thomas Delaney for the foreseeable future. The 32-year-old Danish midfielder broke his collar bone during the sides 1-1 draw with Club Brugge. It was an unfortunate occurrence for Anderlecht as they also saw fellow Danish international Kasper Dolberg have to be taken off before half-time with a muscle injury. Dolberg had scored the sides opening goal but was unable to continue shortly after.
Delaney only joined the side late in the transfer window from Sevilla, where he had played 47 times and scored twice. During the latter half of the 2022/2023 season he was loaned to TSG Hoffenheim. Delaney was considered a key midfield reinforcement by Anderlecht this summer, starting three of the fours games he appeared in since joining. It looks like the injury will open up playing time for Guinea international Amadou Diawara, who will certainly benefit from more minutes ahead of AFCON in January.
