Thilo Kehrer has revealed that Thomas Tuchel was influential in his decision to leave Schalke for Paris Saint-Germain.
Kehrer joined the Parisians for €37m in August – in what was a surprise move – having recently broken into the first team picture at Schalke.
However, the 21-year-old insists PSG are the right club to help him achieve his potential and that he is looking forward to winning silverware under Tuchel.
“My first contacts with PSG?” With the coach in mid-July,” he told Le Parisien. “Tuchel called me and we talked a lot about the club, my progress, my position and what we could achieve together.
“He explained to me where I can progress individually and collectively. Some time passed then I spoke with Antero Henrique – I am proud to have signed for PSG.
“If I hesitated? No, not really. I thought about it because I grew up in Schalke, progressing through every youth team.
“But joining the PSG gives me an opportunity to progress, train with great players and work with a coach who wants to help me grow.”
Kehrer was subbed halfway through his PSG debut against Angers and then sat on the bench at the weekend in the club’s win over Amiens.
However, he’s not letting that get him down.
“I know I’m not at my top level and that my potential is better than what I’ve shown so far.
“I’m not putting pressure on myself, but I have to adapt to my new team, to the new systems and I’m confident I’ll soon show why the club signed me.”
