Moises Caicedo has named the two former Chelsea stars who were his inspiration growing up and inspired him to become a professional footballer.

The Blues made Caicedo the most expensive footballer in British history when they paid Brighton £115m for his services in the summer of 2023.

Caicedo endured a difficult start at Stamford Bridge following his big money move and came under a lot of criticism because of his price tag.

However, over the second half of last season Caicedo started to find his feet and put in a series of impressive performances as Chelsea secured a top six finish and a return to European football.

Under Enzo Maresca the 23-year-old has reached new heights and looks like a player completely transformed, and he’s arguably the best midfielder in the league.

Caicedo has performed to an exceptional level week in week out and Jason Cundy feels he’s more important to Chelsea than Cole Palmer.

The Ecuador international has got everything required to be a top class midfield player and is only going to get better and better, with Frank Leboeuf describing him as a game changer.

The midfielder is one of the first names on the team sheet and Maresca might not admit it but he certainly falls into the undroppable category.

Caicedo has been compared to N’Golo Kante and in a recent interview he stated the France international and one other former Chelsea player were his inspirations.

“I always supported Chelsea because N’Golo Kante played for Chelsea and he was my inspiration, he and Claude Makelele,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“I didn’t watch Makelele live but I would watch videos of him. I grew up watching them and they were my inspiration to become a professional player.”

Chelsea have been blessed with brilliant midfield players over the years, and whilst Caicedo still has a long way to go to surpass the achievements of Makelele and Kante he’s certainly on the right path to doing so.
