Rayan Cherki (20) may be leaving Olympique Lyonnais this summer. His future destination remains unclear, but one place he won’t be going is Saudi Arabia, as he told So Foot.
With Cherki’s contract expiring at the end of next season, it is thought that Olympique Lyonnais want to cash in on the France U21 international, who has had another inconsistent season with Les Gones. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Cherki said that talk of his future will wait until the end of the season, with OL chasing for a European place and also a title, with the club set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the Coupe de France.
However, Cherki has made it clear that wherever he may go, it will be in Europe, at least for now. “Going to Saudi Arabia is far, far, far, far, far away from my thoughts. They can pay me €600m a day, I’m not going there. I want to play in Europe, to enjoy myself here and we’ll see after that. In the future, of course, I could play there. It’s a Muslim country. These things are important to me. We’ll see at the end of my career where the Saudi league is,” he told So Foot.
Cherki has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, and L’Équipe reported earlier this year that he could be sold for as little as €10m.
