A very happy birthday to Kevin Keegan, who turned 68 on Thursday.
Keegan began his career at Scunthorpe United before going on to play for Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle.
After hanging up his boots he went on to manage Newcastle (twice), Fulham, England and Manchester City.
But although he’s been out of the game for over a decade now, he remains one of football’s most vital and quotable characters.
And here are some of his very finest utterances …
We have not resorted to that, but I’ll tell you, you can tell him now if you’re watching it, we’re still fighting for this title, and he’s got to go to Middlesbrough and get something, and… and… I’ll tell you, honestly, I will love it if we beat them. Love it.
Argentina won’t be at Euro 2000 because they’re from South America.
In some ways, cramp is worse than having a broken leg.
I’ve had an interest in racing all my life, or longer really.
You can’t do better than go away from home and get a draw…
And given his birthday falls on Valentine’s Day, here’s his 1979 (s)hit single ‘Head Over Heels in Love’.
What a man.
