For the first time since he was considered a top candidate for the coaching job at FC Bayern, Ralf Rangnick has spoken out. He confirms that he has been contacted by Munich and explains what would be important to him in the event of a commitment.

Ralf Rangnick has commented on FC Bayern’s interest in him. In an interview with the Austrian portal 90minuten.at, the Austrian national team coach reported: „Bayern Munich contacted me, and I also informed the ÖFB. We have a very trusting relationship. My focus is on the Austrian national team.“

Rangnick continued: „We are fully focussed on the European Championship. I feel very comfortable here. At the moment, there’s no reason for me to focus intensively and specifically on it.“

There would only be such a reason if „Bayern were to say: We want you. And then I have to ask myself: do I even want that?“

Rangnick: Money doesn’t play a role

When asked whether he would fulfil his contract as Austria’s national team coach, which runs until 2026, Rangnick replied: „If I want to do something else, I will discuss it with the ÖFB first and foremost.“

Rangnick was also asked whether a commitment with Bayern from the summer would have an influence on the European Championship. Rangnick said that he wanted to prepare his team as well as possible for the tournament in Germany: „They won’t play better just because I say I’ll definitely be here for the next four years.“

Financial aspects would not play a role for the 65-year-old in a potential Bayern job, he emphasised: „For me, it’s about other things: Can I make a difference? Can I make a difference? Is there a chance to develop a team and be successful? That’s what drives me. Once that no longer drives me, it’s time to retire.“
