Manchester City youngster Brahim Díaz is at the centre of a Guardiola family tug-of-war, according to reports in Spain.

Díaz is out of contract in the summer and with no sign of a renewal in sight, it seems highly likely he could join Real Madrid.

The Spaniard reportedly wants to leave City in search of more regular first-team opportunities but despite the fact he has made just three appearances in all competitions so far this season, Blues boss Pep Guardiola hopes the 19-year-old will stay in Manchester.

“The case with Brahim is simple. We want him. We want to extend his contract for four or five years,” Guardiola told a news conference last week.

“We do absolutely everything for him to stay here. But it is in his hands

“My advice, if he doesn’t want to stay, he has to leave. It’s simple.

“Since we arrived we have protected him, the same as we spoke with Jadon [Sancho], the same as the case with Phil [Foden]. But he has to decide, no more than that.”

But Díaz is in a peculiar situation in that the agent who could soon be negotiating his move to another club is Pep Guardiola’s brother, Pere.

Pere is a director of Media Base Sports – the agency which represents Díaz along with the likes of Barcelona’s Luis Suárez and former City youngster Pablo Maffeo, now of Stuttgart.

Naturally, it is often in an agent’s best interests to secure a transfer for their client and though Pep may be hoping Díaz decides to stay at City, Spanish outlet Marca claim his sibling is trying to convince the player to leave.

Pere is already well known to Real Madrid due to the fact a number of his clients – such as Fran Garcia and Ayoub Abou – play for the clubs Castilla and youth teams.

Additionally, his right-hand-man at Media Base Sports is Francisco Javier Torralbo, who was previously Los Blancos’ Director of Recruitment.

Díaz will be free to negotiate a move to another club from January onwards and if he has already been convinced to leave City, it could be a pretty awkward Christmas in the Guardiola household.
