Manchester City have grown into one of the biggest clubs in world football since 2008. Their sustained success has seen the club become a powerhouse of English and European football both on and off the pitch. To show just how far Manchester City have grown as a club they have today announced an extension of their partnership with German sportswear company Puma. The new deal between Manchester City and Puma is believed to be a record-breaking kit deal for a Premier League club.
In an announcement on mancity.com, Manchester City announced that they have extended its partnership with Puma. As per Manchester City’s announcement Manchester City and Puma have set a host of new club global sales records since their partnership began before the 2019/20 season. Pumas’ kits have become synonymous with Manchester City’s recent success. It was a Puma kit that was etched into Manchester City folklore when Pep Guardiola’s side won the treble during the 22/23 season.
Jamie Jackson has reported for the Guardian that Manchester City’s new deal with Puma, which runs until at least 2035, is worth £100 million per season. Furthermore, Jackson reports that the new deal is worth over £1 billion. Jackson further reports that the deal is the first £1 billion kit deal in Premier League history. In quotes relayed by Jamie Jackson, Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano said: “We joined forces with Puma with the ambition to challenge ourselves and go beyond the expectations. We have achieved this and more over the last six seasons. Today’s renewal and extension solidifies our relationship and projects it to an even brighter future.”
Today’s announcement sees Manchester City continue their growth as a club. Success on the pitch has extended to record-breaking deals off the pitch. Those deals form the backbone of Manchester City’s growth and maintain their standing as a club. In an era where revenue is king, today’s announcement further solidifies City’s revenue stream, which is invaluable in the club’s bid to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations in England and Europe.
But more important than that, today’s announcement between Manchester City and Puma further illustrates City’s status as a club. They have become one of the biggest clubs in world football and today’s extension with Puma further confirms their status.
