The Philippines have their first ever goal at any World Cup, at any age level, male or female, as Sarina Bolden put her name in the history books on Tuesday.

New Zealand had started strongly in Wellington but failed to clear their lines from a set-piece. A second ball in found Holden in the six yard box and, surrounded by black shirts, she rose to power home a header past Victoria Esson.

The goal sparked wild celebrations both on the pitch and in the stands and this summer’s World Cup could now be in for its biggest shock to date.

The Philippines are one of eight teams playing at the tournament for the first time ever in 2023 and are the first of those to net at the tournament.
