Ipswich Town had a good season once Kieran McKenna came into the club however the play-offs proved to be a step too far for them, as they finished in 11th place.

However, McKenna will no doubt be looking forward to next season and will be hoping to strengthen his side so that they are able to compete at that level and push for a top six finish, at the very least.

Work on summer signings has already started and Barnsley’s Cauley Woodrow has been one of the names linked with the club so far, as per TWTD.

Woodrow scored four goals and got an assist in 29 appearances for Barnsley this season as they were relegated to League One and with that in mind, we asked FLW’s Ipswich Town fan pundit Henry his thoughts on the potential signing: “With regards to Cauley Woodrow from Barnsley coming in in the summer for Ipswich, I think he’s the type of player we probably do need.

“He’s got League One experience with Barnsley clearly he’s got some Championship experience. Wasn’t prolific this season with Barnsley but looks like he has the traits that McKenna might want.

“However, he doesn’t look like he’s got that down the channel pace which I think is something that McKenna was looking at. He is more of a, I wouldn’t say a hold up player because that would be disrespectful, because he’s more of a link-up man but can run the channels but he isn’t explosive in that.

“Looks like he presses well, he’s got very good feet, decent in the air and he played well with Chaplin in the past, again that was with the two man up top.

“He fits the bill in the age bracket and the experience but is also still young and hungry to prove something else so it will be interesting to see whether McKenna does go for him with the experience, with his goal scoring record in League One and with his game management knowledge under the Barnsley management.

“It does seem like he might fit the bill depending on what the price, I reckon he should be anymore than £2million if so definitely don’t go for him but Cauley Woodrow to Ipswich I could see yeah.”

Quiz: Which club did Ipswich Town sign these 24 players from in the 2000s?

The Verdict:

Although Cauley Woodrow hasn’t been in his best form this season, back in League One and in a side that is looking to be more successful than the one he was in last season, this looks as though it could be a good signing.

Prior to this season, the 27-year-old has scored over ten in the Championship on two occasions and well as 16 goals in 31 appearances last time he was in League One.

The forward has plenty of experience in both the Championship and League One and after a poor season, he will be keen to prove himself and show that he has the talent to be a core part of the team’s attacking efforts.

Furthermore, under the different management of someone like McKenna, Woodrow could really come back into form and have a successful campaign.
