Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has shrugged off suggestions that they will change their selection criteria, with head coach Nasreddine Nabi set to be in the dugout against Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

The Tunisian mentor has been absent due to personal reasons as the Soweto giants won their first three matches in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs are currently in second place on the log standings, level on points with log leaders Sekhukhune United, who have a superior goal difference.

While Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef managed to steer the ship thus far, there has been a narrative brewing from supporters and pundits alike that the Glamour Boys will set up differently in the wake of Nabi’s return.

However, the Burundian tactician poured cold water on those claims, stating that the Naturena-based outfit will stick to the same approach that saw them replicate their impressive start from the 2014/15 title-winning campaign.

“The approach is always the same, it’s true that the coach is here now. We are on the field every day, and the selection doesn’t change, it’s just that now he is physically here, and we talk every day,” Kaze said.

“We are on the field every minute to see how the boys are performing, and we will choose the best players at this moment to represent Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.

With the match on the horizon, Kaze acknowledges that claiming maximum points over the defending champions won’t be a walk in the park but insists Amakhosi are raring to go as they aim to gauge their progress against a formidable opponent.

“Obviously Wednesday is a tough fixture but we are all excited for that game. The week has been good, we played last Tuesday, and we had a whole week of preparation, and everything is going well except that there’s something going on like flue, but hopefully we will be good on Wednesday,” he added.

“We are all excited for the game, it’s always a good opponent that we face. But to see the progress that we have made, we want to play these kinds of games to see where we are at and we can’t wait to get to Wednesday.
