Barcelona stand on the verge of history as they prepare for the final Clasico of the season, with Hansi Flick’s men having already secured three victories out of three against Real Madrid this campaign.
A fourth consecutive triumph would not only seal the La Liga title but also etch this Barça side into the annals of Clasico folklore.
Flick’s Barcelona have been dominant against their eternal rivals in the 2024/25 season. They crushed Madrid 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in La Liga’s first round, followed that up with a 5-2 demolition in the Spanish Super Cup final, and then edged them 3-2 in the Copa del Rey final.
One more win would complete a clean sweep over Los Blancos, a rare and remarkable feat in this historic rivalry.
But as rare as it may be, it would not be the first time Barcelona have pulled off four wins over Real Madrid in a single season.
The last time such dominance was achieved dates back to the 1982-83 season, the first year a certain Diego Armando Maradona wore the Blaugrana shirt.
Back then, under manager Udo Lattek, Barcelona and Real Madrid clashed five times. Barça won four of those and drew once.
That season included two wins in La Liga, a 2-0 away win at the Bernabeu, and another victory at home, followed by a 2-1 win in the Copa del Rey final.
The sides also met in the now-defunct Copa de la Liga, where Barça triumphed again, winning the second leg 2-1 at Camp Nou after a 2-2 draw in Madrid.
To match a run that was accomplished during Maradona’s magical spell in Catalonia would be nothing short of poetic. And in Flick, Barcelona may have found the kind of manager capable of replicating the boldness and superiority that defined that era.
More importantly, this run is not just about records, but about what it represents. Under Flick, Barcelona are showing the resilience, structure and swagger that have been missing in recent years.
Dominating their biggest rivals across multiple competitions in one season suggests this team is not just in resurgence, but they are ready to lead.
With a potential La Liga title on the line and a perfect Clasico season within reach, this match against Madrid is about far more than three points.
