Pontus Jansson was a marked man at Leeds as soon as Marcelo Bielsa came into the club last summer.
It was revealed over the weekend that the Elland Road side had told Jansson he was free to leave after two years in Yorkshire.
But according to a story in the Mirror on Monday, Bielsa has been aware for 12 months now that Jansson is not good enough for his style of play and always planned to let the Sweden international leave during this window.
Apparently Bielsa and Jansson’s terse relationship stems all the way back from last year when the pair had a heated exchange over the defender’s return to pre-season training.
Jansson had been given permission by Leeds to come back later in the summer following his involvement at the World Cup.
However Bielsa wanted more commitment from the 28-year-old and told him as such when he did finally get back from his holiday.
Jansson’s card has been marked ever since, and according to the Mirror, Bielsa told the fan favourite in May that he would be sold – and warned that he would not be welcome back at their Thorp Arch training ground, even if a buyer and not been found.
A switch to Brentford is thought to be just days away from completion.
