Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has been named in Sweden’s squad for the start of their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

Head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson confirmed his 23-man selection on Wednesday, with Sweden set to face Slovenia (5 September) and Kosovo (8 September).

Gudmundsson, 26, joined Leeds from Lille this summer and has impressed during pre-season and the early stages of the campaign, earning a recall to the national side.

Tomasson described the qualifiers as “a massive challenge” and said the squad would need to show “character and quality” to secure a place at the finals.

The Leeds defender has represented his country on 15 occasions, most recently in a 2-0 win over Hungary in June.
