As announced by a whole host of sources across the continent on Friday, Nacho has come to the decision not to renew his expiring terms in Spain’s capital.

The veteran defender, as a result, will depart in the summer, to seek out a new chapter in his career.

What does this mean, then, for the captain’s armband in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad?

As per a report from Relevo, 2nd in line in the captaincy pecking order at the Santiago Bernabéu is midfield veteran Luka Modrić.

With the Croatian looking increasingly likely to follow Nacho out the door in the summer, however, it is defender Dani Carvajal who is currently considered the front-runner to lead Real Madrid into the 2024/25 campaign:
