Having flown to Barcelona overnight, Rashford has completed his medicals successfully today, and the transfer could be made official any moment now.

Penalty clause for Barcelona

As mentioned above, Barcelona will sign Rashford from Manchester United on a season-long loan deal until June 2026, but with a non-mandatory buy option.

However, according to journalist Miguel Rico on COPE, the Blaugrana will have to pay a penalty to the Premier League club if the transfer is not made permanent.

Barça have a permanent buy option worth around €30-€35 million for the 27-year-old. They are covering the full salary of the forward after he agreed to take a 30% pay cut.

As such, in case the La Liga champions do not exercise the permanent purchase option for Rashford come 2026, they will have to pay the player’s 30% waived-off salary to Manchester United as a penalty.

Going one step further, Fabrizio Romano (h/t FCB World) reports that the figure of the penalty fee that Barcelona will have to pay is under €5 million.

So, Rashford’s salary is expected to come up to around €14 million per year (gross) even after the 30% reduction.

And, at the end of the loan term, the Catalans will either have to shell out €30 million to retain him permanently or pay the penalty equal to the 30% salary waived off by the forward.
