Manchester City take on West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, hoping to return to the top of the Premier League table once again.
City are in the midst of a remarkable run of form that is pushing them ever closer to a hugely impressive treble haul of silverware, remaining alive for a third successive Premier League title, a first ever Champions League success, and a second FA Cup trophy under Pep Guardiola.
Arsenal currently hold a two-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the division following their 3-1 win over Chelsea on Tuesday night, although Pep Guardiola and his players have two games in hand on their title challengers.
In fact, City have the opportunity to go four points clear at the top of the Premier League table before Arsenal are next in action, taking on West Ham and Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium this week before the Gunners’ trip to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
While Manchester City’s squad returned to full strength in recent weeks, Nathan Ake’s hamstring problem was accompanied by a mystery injury to Kevin De Bruyne that ruled him out of the trip to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday afternoon.
As for West Ham, David Moyes and his team have been hit with a significant injury problem to mainstay central defender Kurt Zouma, and have a couple of other “knocks and niggles” concerning other members of their playing squad.
Ahead of another hugely important Premier League clash for Manchester City and West Ham on Wednesday night, here is all the very latest fitness and injury news from both camps!
Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City players have this week been boosted by the return of Nathan Ake to first-team training on the grass at the City Football Academy, after the Dutch defender recovered from a hamstring problem sustained last month.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon, the Manchester City manager confirmed the latest on the fitness of Ake.
“Nathan (Ake) trained yesterday with us, he feels good,” the Catalan boss revealed, before confirming that the former Bournemouth and Chelsea centre-back will be available to face West Ham on Wednesday night.
Elsewhere, Kevin De Bruyne remains a concern amongst many Manchester City supporters, after the Belgian was withdrawn against Arsenal after complaining of “niggles” in his leg in the second-half of the 4-1 victory last week.
The 32 year-old played no part in the weekend’s contest against Fulham, not making the travelling squad at Craven Cottage, and Guardiola provided an additional update on his vice-captain this week.
“Kevin (De Bruyne) has started to move but didn’t train with the team,” said Guardiola. “We have training in a few hours and we will see.”
David Moyes described mainstay centre-back Kurt Zouma as ‘the biggest fear’ amongst his injury problems at present, as the Hammers look to get the Frenchman back to full fitness ahead of the league’s conclusion in the coming weeks.
Speaking on Tuesday, Moyes explained, “We have one or two knocks and niggles. Kurt Zouma is the biggest fear. We think we might lose Kurt for a few weeks but we are still assessing his ankle at the moment.
“I wouldn’t want to say [how long]. Kurt is incredibly good at getting himself fit and and back to it. I am hoping he will be fine [to play in a couple of weeks].”
