“The last time I accept this type of behaviour” – Pochettino sends warning to players over penalty chaos | OneFootball

Mauricio Pochettino warned his Chelsea players he will not allow them to “behave in this way” again after more penalty chaos in the 6-0 win against Everton.

The Blues were 4-0 up and cruising thanks to a hat-trick from Cole Palmer and a great finish from Nicolas Jackson,  before being awarded a penalty around the hour mark.

Palmer had been fouled in the box, and whilst he was on the down on the floor two of his team-mates decided to argue over who would take the penalty in embarrassing scenes, which took the gloss off a brilliant night at Stamford Bridge.

Jackson and Noni Madueke had a heated exchange with each other before Palmer got to his feet and tried to take the bal, with captain Conor Gallagher having to step in to make it clear Palmer would be taking the penalty.

The 21 year old cooly slotted the ball past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal for his fourth goal of the night and kept up his 100% record from the spot this season.

It was arguably one of, if not Chelsea’s best performance of the season, but after the game Pochettino came out and sent a stern warning to his players about the confrontation.

He told Sky Sports: “It is a shame. I was telling the players when we arrived from the pitch. We had a meeting with all the staff also and we explained and were talking. For me it is a shame because we cannot behave in this way and I can only apologise.

“I told them that this is the last time that I accept this type of behaviour. Next time those involved in a situation like this are all out. This is not a joke.

“It’s impossible after a performance like this to have this type of behaviour that shows that we are in a process and we will learn a lot. We are a great team fighting for big things. We need to change and think more in a collective way.

“It’s so clear and I made clear to them and through you, to the fans and to everyone that Cole Palmer is the taker, and then if Palmer wants to give it to another he can. But not in this way.

“It is a sad situation that happened and we have all agreed it cannot happen again.”

It’s not the first time arguing over a penalty has occurred this season, and hopefully it’s the last.

Fans will be delighted to see Pochettino come out and lay the law down to his players and show authority and leadership which he has been accused of lacking this season.
