Charlton Athletic are enduring a very similar season to 2021/22, in which they began the season in disappointing fashion in part down to a poor summer transfer window, have picked up since changing manager but remain unlikely to compete for a place in the play-offs.

There is a lot of outside noise at the club at the moment, with a number of parties appearing to be interested in taking over in South London, although until anything is finalised the squad and coaching staff must continue operating with a very short term mentality.

Attendances have been dwindling in recent years and particularly this season, however, the Addicks’ run to the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup did see supporters turn out in their numbers, mainly for their last 16 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at The Valley, along with their resultant trip to Manchester United.

Charlton have scored the second-most goals from open play in League One this season, only trailing Ipswich Town, and that should provide a crumb of optimism that a potential promotion push is not miles away if they can conduct one or two smart transfer windows.
