The Addicks have secured their place in League One for another year under Nathan Jones, with the ex-Luton Town boss steering the team clear of relegation danger.

It has been a disappointing year for the London club, but the 50-year-old has overseen a positive start to life at the Valley.

This has raised optimism for the next campaign that Charlton can compete in the top half of the League One table, with the new owners of the club eyeing promotion to the Championship.

While the transfer window isn’t open just yet, clubs will already be weighing up their options with the season set to conclude this weekend.

FLW’s Charlton fan pundit Ben Fleming believes Jonson Clarke-Harris would be a smart signing for the League One side.

The forward turned down an offer from Charlton in January, but is set to be available as a free agent this summer, opening the door for a potential deal.

“I think the pretty obvious shout is probably Jonson Clarke-Harris,” Fleming told Football League World.

“It was very well reported our interest in him in January, I think we tabled a bid.

“Clearly either didn’t come to an agreement on the fee or his wages, but I would imagine that would be one that the club would be keen to explore in the summer.

“Whether his wage demands are going to be something we can reach, especially if he’s out of contract which means players normally demand more wages, whether we can meet those wage fees given we didn’t in January is a question.

“But he’s clearly got prowess at this level, looks like he’s basically set to leave Peterborough.

“Big physical striker.

“We brought Connor Wickham in on a short-term deal, I don’t know whether that will become more than just a short-term deal at the end of the season, but he’s the sort of physical striker we could do with.

“To work alongside [Miles] Leaburn as he comes back, obviously Chuks Aneke, you can’t rely on him for minutes given his injury record.

“Someone like him would obviously make sense given it’s someone we went after in January, and I would imagine there’s still interest there, especially if Nathan Jones is going to persist with either the 5-3-2 formation or if he goes to a 4-4-2 narrow diamond formation.

“You’re going to want two up top, I think Clarke-Harris makes sense given his track record and our obvious interest in him in January.”

Clarke-Harris' importance to Peterborough

Charlton will go into the final weekend of the League One season sitting 16th in the table.

Meanwhile, the Posh sit fourth in the standings and could seal promotion to the Championship through the play-offs.

Clarke-Harris has contributed nine goals and two assists from 33 appearances in the third tier this year, playing a key role in the team’s play-off qualification.

However, it appears his future lies away from Peterborough with no extension agreement looking likely.

Clarke-Harris would be a great addition at Charlton

Charlton will likely face strong competition in the race for Clarke-Harris’ signature this summer, as any number of clubs could use a forward of his quality.

The 29-year-old has proven himself as a consistent goal scorer at this level, even if this hasn’t been his most prolific campaign.

He has previously helped the Posh earn promotion to the Championship, which is the kind of experience a side like Charlton would love to have in their ranks.

Clarke-Harris has played his cards well running down his contract, and is sure to receive a very lucrative offer from wherever he next competes.
