Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to six games after a 3-1 victory over visitors Aston Villa in the English Premier League. The win takes Gunners into the top half of the table.

Alexandre Lacazette started for the first time this season as Mikel Arteta made three changes to the starting 11. Nuno Tavares started for the first time in the league for his new club and replaced the injured Kieran Tierney. Albert Lokonga replaced Martin Ødegaard.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette played as the two strikers and were supported by Saka and Smith-Rowe who operated from the wider positions.
Dean Smith named an unchanged lineup from their defeat against Wolves in the previous fixture. Emilliano Buendia started as an attacking midfielder behind the two strikers.
Douglas Luiz played as a defensive midfielder for Villa. Danny Ings dropped into the midfield and played alongside Buendia and McGinn.
Both teams had an equal share of possession and each team dominated the ball in three different periods. Arsenal created 37 positional attacks and had a high expected goal rate of 3.70. Aston Villa players made five tackles and 46 interceptions. The average pass length of Villa passes were more than the opponents.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang attempted five shots for the home side and his expected goal rate was 1.88. Takehiro Tomiyasu made the most number of recoveries in the opposition half. He attempted ten passes into the opposition final third and even won two aerial duels. Leon Bailey came off the bench and attempted six dribbles.
Arsenal players attempted 21 shots and eight shots were on target for the home team. The goals were scored from inside the box. Aubameyang missed a penalty and converted the rebound. Thomas Partey even hit the woodwork with his attempt.
Aston Villa players attempted ten shots and three were on target. The goal was scored by substitute Ramsey just from the edge of the box.
The Gunners attempted 12 shots in the first half and created a lot of threats during the second phase of the first half. Aston Villa didn’t attempt a single shot in the first half and all of the attempts were made in the second half. Aubemayang had three shots on target and his xG rate was 1.88.
Nuno Tavares, Tomiyasu and Smith-Rowe attempted 53 passes each for the home side. Nuno Tavares made 14 passes towards Smith-Rowe and received the same number of passes from the midfielder.
Matty Cash attempted 48 passes for the away team. His nine passes were towards Bailey. Konsa was on the receiving end of 38 passes.
Nuno Tavares attempted five crosses from the left side and his seven passes landed in the opposition 18-yard box. Arsenal players attempted five smart passes but were unsuccessful in delivering any pass.
Emi Buendia attempted 30 passes in the match and five of his passes landed in the opposition box. The team attempted four smart passes and had a 25% success rate.
Arsenal created a lot of threats from the left side of the play. Nuno Tavares created the highest threat rate from passes. Thomas Partey created a threat rate of 0.2 from the midfield.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang created the highest threat rate from dribbles with his four dribbles. He was supported by Lokonga and Tavares.
Aston Villa created more threats from the wider positions and fewer threats from the centre. John McGinn created an xT of 0.421 from passes.
Leon Bailey’s six dribbles created an xT of 0.062. Striker Ollie Watkins created the second-highest threat rate and was followed by John McGinn.
Arsenal players won ten defensive duels each in the middle third and defensive third. Gabriel, Lokonga and Partey won two defensive duels each.
Thomas Partey contested five aerial duels and won three out of them. Tomiyasu, White and Gabriel won two duels each.
Alexandre Lacazette contested seven loose ball duels and won four out of them. He lost one duel and his two duels resulted in a neutral result. Gabriel won three duels and Lokonga won two duels.
Matty Cash contested 11 defensive duels and only won two out of them. The team won most of their duels towards the left side of the defence.
Tyrone Mings and Konsa dominated the air and won four aerial duels each. Matt Targett also won three out of the four duels he contested.
Tyrone Mings, Douglas Luiz and Watkins won two loose ball duels each for the away side. Most of the loose ball duels were won in the middle third.
Arsenal continues their good run and have earned 14 points in six games after making a difficult start to the season. Aston Villa have lost their previous three games and remain in the 13th position.
