Anderlecht’s January search for a striker went down to the wire on deadline day, with multiple names having been banded around. In the end, the side announced that 34-year-old Brest striker Islam Slimani would be joining the club until the end of this current season. Former Monaco, Leicester City and Newcastle striker Slimani has scored twice in 18 matches for the Ligue 1 side this season, as well as providing three assists.

Slimani, who has 42 goals in 89 games for the Desert Foxes, has been brought in to replace outgoing top scorer Fabio Silva. The Wolves striker ended his loan with Anderlecht early and moved across the border to PSV. Throughout the January window Anderlecht have been searching for a replacement striker. Fan reaction has been negative to the news that Slimani is the player they ended up with.

The side were linked with a move for Harry Toffolo, but despite the player passing medicals an agreement with Nottingham Forest could not be reached.

At the other end, Anderlecht did manage to sell to ease their poor financial situation. Wesley Hoedt joined Watford, while youngster Julien Duranville moved to Dortmund for €10m plus add-ons. Anouar Ait El Hadj opted to remain in Belgium, joining league leaders Genk.
