Millwall are holding out for a £15m fee for Mihailo Ivanovic after rejecting a bid from Parma for the striker.
Millwall are holding out for a fee in the region of £15 million for star man Mihailo Ivanovic, with Parma having previously seen a bid of £7 million rejected by the Championship side.
The Serbian enjoyed a brilliant first season in English football last time out, scoring 12 goals in the second tier and impressing with his all-round game.
That has led to plenty of speculation surrounding Ivanovic this summer, with Wolves, Everton and Parma known to be among the admirers.
It is the Italian side who are pushing hardest to land the 20-year-old ahead of Monday’s 7pm deadline though, and it was revealed in the week that they had seen a £7m offer knocked back by the Lions for the striker.
Despite that, it appears they are still interested in Ivanovic, but journalist Alan Nixon has stated that Millwall have made it clear to the Serie A outfit that they will need to pay £15m to prise the player from The Den - which would be a club-record sale for the South Bermondsey outfit after letting Romain Esse head to Crystal Palace earlier this year for a fee which could rise to £14.5 million.
Nixon adds that Parma ‘could’ return with an ‘improved package’ before the deadline, but it’s unclear whether they will get anywhere near Millwall’s demands for their star Serbian.
Even though they fell to a disappointing defeat at home to Wrexham on Saturday, it has been a positive start to the campaign for Millwall, and there will be a belief they can push for the play-offs this season.
But, to do that, Ivanovic will be massive, so they are right to stick a big valuation on someone who is so crucial to the team.
It’s pointless to say that they won’t sell no matter what, as we know that football is a business nowadays, and player trading is becoming increasingly important for clubs in the Championship.
Nevertheless, at this stage of the window, it should take a significant bid for Millwall to cash in on one of Alex Neil’s best players, and £15m would be a fair price tag when you take everything into consideration.
So, it will be interesting to see if Millwall stick to their guns, and ultimately it’s now down to Parma, or any other interested club, to make a suitable offer.
