The best and worst forward for the LA Galaxy so far this season

Article image:The best and worst forward for the LA Galaxy so far this season

When a team has struggled as mightily as the Los Angeles Galaxy has, it's hard to imagine listing any player on an anemic offense as the star. While a few arguments can be made, here's one.

Marco Reu and Diego Fagundez have played more time lately up at forward than the team's leading scorer. Midfielder Riqui Puig is still out recovering from last year's ACL injury.

The other two 'Killa' P's,' Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec, have also missed time due to their own bodies not being at 100% this whole season.

The LA Galaxy's best forward has to be...

Though he is representing a different 'crew' this season, this prolific scorer came in hot early on for the LA Galaxy.

Christian Ramirez was signed last winter on a one-year $500,000 deal in the hopes he would alleviate the loss of scoring sensation Dejan Joveljic.

The Serbian and former LA Galaxy star netted 15 scores last year. He already has 10 goals with his new team, Sporting Kansas City and half the season left to play.

Ramirez has started 10 games and subbed another seven, while missing just one. He was named the team's Player of the Month by the LA Galaxy in March and April. Reus won the honor in May.

The former Columbus Crew star has not taken a shot since the 3-2 loss against the Philadelphia Union. In fact, he hasn't started since the game following when the LA Galaxy tied LAFC 2-2.

The LA Galaxy's next game is against a familiar foe, the Colorado Rapids. These two teams met in the opening round of last year's playoffs. The eventual MLS champions went on a tear by scoring 11 goals in two games against the Rapids, who scored just once.

On average this season, that's also how much both the LA Galaxy and Colorado Rapids are scoring (one goal per game). Having the presence of a scoring threat like Ramirez will remind everyone not only why he was brought in but how he shined in March and April.

A not so bright star in the forward position is...

Miguel Berry. He has played sparingly this season, especially as of late.

The 27-year-old Spaniard has not seen the field since the 7-0 drumming against the NY Red Bulls.

Berry was one of the 11 players that the LA Galaxy made available for this season's Expansion Draft. The newcomers to the league, San Diego FC, passed on the opportunity to take the forward and MLS Cup champion.

While some stats make Berry look good, such as his passing percentage (80%0 and aerial duel percentage (61.5), he has yet to score for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

He played just over 800 minutes last year while scoring twice and recording three assist. As Berry earned the team's first assist on the season (a pass to Pec in the 2-1 loss at Vancouver), he has only gotten one more since.

Again, on a team with very few standouts at the forward position, Ramirez is the best but not by much. He sits right where Berry is now, too... the bench.
