Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick is giving serious consideration to affording a member of the club’s youth ranks a permanent spot in his first-team squad.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Unai Hernández as the player in question.
Unai, for those not familiar with his name, is a 19-year-old midfielder, who has long been making a name for himself as a potential star in the making in Catalunya’s capital.
Afforded a place in the Barca Atlètic setup in the summer of 2023, Unai has since gone from strength to strength.
Across the campaign to date, the youngster has featured from the off in all but one of Barca Atlètic’s nine league fixtures, chipping in with four goals along the way.
And his performances, evidently, have not gone at all unnoticed at senior level.
As per a report from the aforementioned Sport, with Unai having already followed in the footsteps of Marc Casadó on his way to securing captain status at reserve level, the youngster is now increasingly close to joining his fellow countryman as a senior player, too.
Having been called up to train with Hansi Flick’s squad on several occasions already this season, Unai is considered the Blaugrana talent ‘closest’ to a first-team berth.
