The true ceiling for Lamine Yamal is something that only he truly knows. Despite still just being 18 years old, the Barcelona winger has become a superstar in his own right. However, it seems that his aspirations know no bounds either.
With the Ballon d’Or ceremony coming up in September, Yamal clearly wants to make a statement with his performances. He continued to excel throughout the preseason, and he has now brought that high level of his into the official season as well.

As highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, it seems clear enough that Yamal wants to shine and is determined to lead the team however he can. After all, even in the absence of Robert Lewandowski, he was quite notably the team’s focal point in attack against Mallorca.
At first, he provided a sublime assist to Raphinha for his opening goal. Then, it was his blocked shot that paved the way for Ferran Torres to score his goal as well. Finally, before the game ended, he also took the ball, danced passed a couple of defenders, and shot a rocket into the top corner himself.

Then, even his celebration, one that he showcased during preseason, Yamal mimicked putting a crown on his head. Inspired by NBA legend Lebron James, it is a celebration that the basketball player does in relation to his nickname of ‘King James’.
Yamal, while he may not have a nickname like that just yet, clearly wants to reach that status. As the successor to many greats at the club, having been given the legendary number ‘10’ as well, the Barça winger is destined for greatness, and it seems clear enough that he knows it.
