The 8 Portsmouth FC players likely to exit Fratton Park from June onwards

Portsmouth have put themselves in a brilliant position to get back to the Championship for the first time since the 2011/12 season.

This didn't always seem like a certainty though. The winter months were tough for Pompey as they seemed to be losing control of the lead at the top of the table that they'd built up at the start of the season. But a solid January transfer window has put them right back on course for the second tier of English football, and they have returned to their high-flying, goalscoring ways.

Regardless of what league they are in, come the summer, their squad will need to adjust accordingly, and these are eight of the club's current players who are likely to make moves away from Fratton Park after June, whether they be temporary or permanent.

1 Anthony Scully

Irish winger Anthony Scully was a marquee signing for John Mousinho's side, but injuries and other issues have prevented him from reaching his best levels this season. There were rumours about whether the club were looking at cutting their losses in the January window, by moving him on just six months after arriving, but this was denied by the manager.

Scully has struggled with injuries for the past two seasons now, and nothing that he has displayed so far in a blue shirt, or in his previous spell as a Championship player, has shown that he is up to the required level at Portsmouth. The summer could see the club cut their losses with the 24-year-old.

2 Sean Raggett

Sean Raggett has been given more game time than was expected, thanks to a season-ending ACL injury suffered by Regan Poole. The two centre-backs were told that they would be competing for the same position, and Poole's early season starts suggested he won that battle quite easily.

The 30-year-old was linked with a return to his hometown of Gillingham last summer, by journalist Alan Nixon, but Raggett played these links down. His contract with the club is up at the end of the season, which could well spell the end of his run as a Pompey player - particularly if the club are preparing for a season in the Championship.

3 Christian Saydee

Pretty much all the club's summer business is dependent on whether they get promoted, but Christian Saydee may be the exception.

The 21-year-old has a contract with Portsmouth until the of 2026, so they won't be offloading him permanently, but he needs to get minutes somewhere, and a loan move should help him develop into the player that the club sees that he could be.

4 Ryley Towler

Much like Raggett, Ryley Towler probably wasn't expecting many starts at centre-back this year, with Poole and Conor Shaughnessy being the preferred pairing.

Unlike Raggett, though, that has been the case. The 22-year-old is very far down the pecking order, and a temporary move, for the 2024/25 season, to a League Two, or even National League, side would be better for him than just sitting on the bench or in the stands most weeks.

5 Matt Macey

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Macey was brought in mid-season by the club and he's been little more than a safety net.

Will Norris has held down the number one spot all season, and there's no reason for Pompey to offer Macey a new deal at the end of the campaign.

6 Josh Martin

Speaking of mid-season signings, Josh Martin arrived in November and hasn't been able to lay down much of a claim that he should be kept on after the current campaign/

His contract is up this summer and that may be that at Fratton Park.

Midfielder Liam Vincent has spent most of this campaign, and the prior one, on loan at National League sides, or clubs slightly below that level.

At 21, there's not much to suggest that he's going to blossom into a top-end League One, or even Championship, player, so his time with Pompey will probably end after June when his contract runs out.

8 Ryan Schofield

24-year-old Ryan Schofield joined as the back-up to Norris in the summer, and he's been reduced to option number three since Macey joined in January.

He's had rare outings for the club, with his most recent - a Football League Trophy game against AFC Wimbledon - being a night to forget.
