Stars from PSG, Arsenal and Manchester City have been amongst the top creative players in Europe this season and we’ve compiled a list of the top 10 players.

Lionel Messi recently recorded his 300th assist at club level and it will come as little surprise to learn that he makes an appearance on this list.

We’ve compiled the top 10 players with the most assists in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Note: there are eight further players – including Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior and Leicester City’s James Maddison – on nine assists but they miss out due to their inferior per-minute ratio.

10. Alassane Plea (9 assists)

The versatile French forward has been a useful player for Borussia Monchengladbach and he ranks as one of the most creative players in the Bundesliga this season.

And he can score, too. We’re still trying to figure out how he pulled off this ridiculous finish.

9. Riyad Mahrez (9 assists)

It’s impressive that Mahrez features here, given he’s only started 18 Premier League matches this season for Manchester City.

The Algerian has been a victim of the dreaded Pep Roulette but still tends to contribute when on the pitch. His rate of registering an assist every 175 minutes is only better by a select few names on this list.

Of course, having a striker like Erling Haaland probably helps.

8. Randal Kolo Muani (10 assists)

The French playmaker is having the season of his life for Eintracht Frankfurt right now. With 13 league goals and 10 assists in 23 appearances, Kolo Muani has been one of the most prolific players in Europe – and one of only a handful to register double figures for both.

7. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (10 assists)

Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen have formed a lethal partnership recently and we can’t get enough of them.

Napoli have been the entertainers of Europe this season and they’ve been the first side across the major leagues to wrap up the title.

Needless to say, the scenes of celebration in Naples have been off the scale.

6. Bukayo Saka (11 assists)

Mikel Arteta has pushed his Arsenal squad to a new level and Saka in particular has thrived during this campaign. This season has already been his most productive in terms of goal involvements and he’s constantly getting better.

The 21-year-old has been one of the best players in the Premier League this year and he’ll surely have a key role to play in the run-in.

5. Neymar (11 assists)

After sustaining a serious ankle injury, Neymar has been ruled out of the remainder of the season for PSG. Prior to the injury setback, Neymar was in the form of his life.

In the league alone he has 24 goal contributions in just 20 appearances. Hopefully, he comes back just as strong next season.

4. Antoine Griezmann (12 assists)

The Frenchman has looked back to his best this season for club and country. Griezmann was one of the stars of the 2022 World Cup and he’s been just as useful for Atletico Madrid.

With 13 league goals and 12 assists, Griezmann has been involved in 42% of the goals that Atletico Madrid have scored this season. Arguably La Liga’s best player this season.

3. Raphael Guerrero (12 assists)

The Borussia Dortmund left-back has stepped things up considerably as they push Bayern in the Bundesliga title race.

Six of Guerrero’s 12 Bundesliga assists for Dortmund have come in his last seven appearances.

2. Lionel Messi (15 assists)

No surprises here as Messi ranks as the most creative player in Europe once again. He’s averaged more than a goal or assist per game in Ligue 1 this season and when he’s in the mood, there’s no stopping him.

Messi provided his 300th club career assist last month with this fine pass to Kylian Mbappe against Brest.

1. Kevin De Bruyne (16 assists)

Having De Bruyne and Erling Haaland in the same team should be illegal as the Belgian playmaker has thrived this season with Manchester City’s new number nine.

He is leading the way in the Premier League right now for assists with 12, but there is one other player in Europe who just pips him to the top spot.
