Former Rangers star Sam Lammers has stated that he is extremely happy after scoring against Manchester United and revealed that as a striker he always thinks of goalscoring situations in his mind.

Rangers were keen to offload Lammers, who last season had an impressive second half campaign with Utrecht on loan, in the summer and he joined FC Twente on a permanent transfer.

On Wednesday, Twente took on Premier League giants Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Europa League and it was Lammers’ 68th minute strike that helped them to secure a 1-1 draw against the Red Devils.

The ex-Rangers star admitted that he is very happy to be able to help his team and added that he enjoyed scoring the goal in front of the away fans.

“I am a very happy person, a great moment”, Lammers told Dutch broadcaster Ziggo Sport.

“In front of the away box too, a nice moment. That is enjoyable.”

Lammers also stated that as a striker, he always imagines situations where he is in goalscoring positions and said that he is glad to be able to convert his opportunity into a goal.

“You always do that as a striker, situations you could end up in”, he added.

“In my mind, I had scored a lot of goals; I’m glad I scored one.”

The former Rangers star has begun the season with Twente in an impressive manner, as he has already scored three times while laying out one assist in his six appearances.

Rangers’ deal to sell Lammers also contained a number of add-ons, but it is not clear if scoring in Europe or reaching a specific stage of the Europa League might trigger an extra payment to the Gers.
