Butland:

Didn’t actually have to make any major saves in truth, Malmo were a bit wasteful, which made his life easier, and while some of his kicking was suspect and he didn’t make any claims, he didn’t do much wrong either. 6

Tavernier:

Was beaten too easily a few times, but despite this offered more defensively than any other Rangers player, 12 contributions total. Non-existent as an attacking force because that was how Clement set it up, and it makes things a bit more sturdy at the rear. 7

Souttar:

Big at the back again, was able to cover Tavernier a fair bit and stopped most of what got near him. Solid. 7

Propper:

Very active. Had a lot of the ball, in the ‘Connor Goldson’ role, and tried a tonne of long balls as well. Was fairly sturdy in his role and looked comfortable alongside Souttar. 7

Kasanwirjo:

Wasn’t much involved defensively, seemed more of a left-based anchor because his ball distribution was good. Didn’t really do much wrong despite being out of position. Clean. 7

Barron:

Industrious in the middle, his usual groundwork was working hard to make life tough for Malmo, and it succeeded as their midfield was mostly useless. Clean passing as well. A solid night from Barron. 7

Diomande:

A much more resolute display from Dio, this time his partnership with Barron was in sync and both worked doggedly defensively. His passing was excellent. He needs to play more like this. 8

Bajrami:

Was in dreamland early on with the easiest goal he’ll score, but didn’t sit on that laurel and tried to make so much more happen as well. Did make an error not shooting from Dessers’ pass when he should have, but he will be thrilled with his overall display. 8

Lawrence:

Usual quiet display from Lawrence, one or two nice moments, and a shot or two, but is just not the playmaker to take matches by the scruff of the neck. 6

Cerny:

Will be kicking himself at the gilt-edge chance he wasted, but was otherwise hard working and never hiding, even if not a lot really came off for him. Had the right attitude even if the final product was strangely missing. 6

Dessers:

Might have been wasteful in front of goal but did a tower of work deeper and was able to also offer more as a target man than he usually does. Did blow a chance or two, but it’s thanks to him Rangers were as dangerous up front as they were. Acquitted himself well. 8

Subs:

McCausland:

Complete honesty, if not for his goal he had zero impact, but goals are the currency we measure football in and he nailed his one chance. Well done Ross. 8

Manager:

This was a very interesting one from Clement – he seemed very gung-ho with his team, a risky LB choice, 4 attackers and just two midfielders, but it clearly worked in the first half as the defensive line sat responsibly deep, but linked well with midfield and attack. First half was just a victory for tactics and Rangers controlled it. Second half was not a lot worse, but Malmo were always going to offer more and adapt, and Clement this time was able to adapt back. The second goal was a clinical sub at the right time. So for all we’ve slaughtered Clement this season, this was an all-round win from a manager who, finally, was completely in the zone. Well done. 9
