FC Barcelona have already dealt with a lot of problematic injuries in this ongoing season. Interestingly, they are not even mid-way through the campaign and the club is already plagued with an injury crisis. What makes matters worse is that those injuries happen to be across the field for Barcelona.

That means that the team has key players sidelined in various positions, and not enough quality replacements to properly cover up their absence. However, there was one particular position where Barcelona had to immediately make a transfer decision to fill the void left by a key player’s unfortunate injury.

That would be the goalkeeping position, which is one that Marc-Andre Ter Stegen was the starter for until he suffered a long-term injury in the game against Villarreal. Shortly afterwards, Barcelona managed to sign Wojciech Szczesny to come into the team and help out with the rest of this season.

However, a positive development has now seen Ter Stegen make his return to the club facilities already, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo. The Barcelona captain had successfully undergone surgery and he has already returned to the Ciutat Esportiva in order to resume individual training.

Following his initial injury, one of the reported objectives for Ter Stegen was to get his surgery done as soon as possible to consequently avoid wasting as little time as possible. Now that he is back to train in the club facilities, it seems that his objective is clear as day.

However, his return is still a far way off from today. The German goalkeeper looks unlikely to feature again this season but he continues to hope to be available for the team before the season ends for the final stretch. As of right now, both Szczesny and Inaki Pena will be the players that Hansi Flick will entrust.
