The situation between Barcelona and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen now looks hostile. With the recent developments concerning the German goalkeeper, things are not looking good at all. After all, the latest update regarding the club captain could take things to a legal extreme.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 33-year-old goalkeeper has refused to give the green light for the club to submit his injury report to La Liga’s Medical Commission following his surgery. This is unprecedented for Barcelona, as no player has ever done this previously.

Even when Andreas Christensen or Ronald Araujo were injured, their medical reports allowed the club to temporarily address other registrations. Now, in Ter Stegen’s case, the German goalkeeper is actively refusing to give his permission.
With the player’s consent being crucial for such procedures, Barça might have to take this issue to a legal extreme and has reportedly already opened a disciplinary case. After all, the player’s contractual obligation to the Catalans comes with certain duties and responsibilities.
For now, Barça remains completely blocked from submitting his medical reports. If they were able to do so and prove to La Liga that his absence would be a long-term one, they could potentially use a significant percentage of his salary space to register other players, primarily Joan Garcia.
However, things between the Barcelona captain and the club have now reached an ugly standoff. For now, the club has opened a disciplinary case, which could lead to sanctions, as they believe Ter Stegen’s refusal to have his reports submitted is harmful for the institution on a financial and sporting level.
