Ten Hag to be sacked regardless of FA Cup result

Erik ten Hag will be sacked as Manchester United manager at the end of the season, regardless of the result in this weekend’s FA Cup final.

Ten Hag’s position has been under threat following a disappointing domestic campaign that saw the Red Devils finish eighth in the Premier League, the club’s lowest league finish since 1989-90. United also exited the Champions League at the group stage and Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos are set to decide on change this summer.

The Guardian are reporting that even a win in this weekend’s FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley, which would result in silverware for the second successive campaign, will not be enough to salvage Ten Hag’s position at Old Trafford.

United are understood to have held talks with the representatives of Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, who spent five seasons working on the coaching staff at Manchester United between 2016 and 2021, about the position.

Other potential candidates include Brentford boss Thomas Frank, England manager Gareth Southgate, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino. The latter has left his role at Chelsea following an end-of-season review at Stamford Bridge and has long-term admirers in Manchester.
