Telstar will enter the Eredivisie without Mitch Apau, as per VoetbalPrimeur reports. The 35-year-old defender, who played a major role in the White Lions’ promotion as captain, has decided to play for Spakenburg next season.
Apau made the choice to swap Telstar for Tweede Divisie club Spakenburg during the past campaign. Then, against all expectations, his team succeeded in being promoted.
It left the experienced defender with a dilemma: stay at Telstar, or go to Spakenburg. “After a few days of thinking, I made a decision,” he said in a video message via the club’s X account. “I’m going to play football at Spakenburg. Despite the conversations, I still put my family first. I want to spend more time at home, hence the choice.”
The grateful Apau will not disappear completely from Velsen-Zuid, though. “I will be involved in the technical management next season. So you will still see me now and then.”
