Domenico Tedesco has looked back for the first time on his turbulent period as national coach of Belgium and his eventual dismissal in January of this year.
Tedesco was appointed in February 2023 and lasted just under two years with the Belgian team. In that short period, the coach worked with many different directors, as he told a podcast by BILD:
“I was unlucky that a lot of changes took place at the football association in a short time. I signed my contract in February, but before my first match, the CEO (Peter Bossaert) had already left.”
All those changes reportedly made it difficult for Tedesco. “I have known three chairmen, four sports directors and two technical directors. Then it is difficult to speak of one association. Because the approach also changed, it was more difficult for me to work.”
The 39-year-old coach was ultimately at the helm of Belgium for 24 matches. At the last European Championship, a bleak Red Devils outfit eventually ran aground in the quarter-finals against France. Rudi García is now the national coach of Belgium.
