Union Saint-Gilloise convincingly became national champions this season and can prepare for the Champions League next term. For striker Mohammed Fuseini, this was key reasoning to extend his stay at the Dudenpark, despite interest from Ajax among others.
In an interview with SportsBoom, which reported that Fuseini has attracted interest from Ajax and Lazio, the 22-year-old Ghanaian made his intentions clear.
“Nothing distracts me. My goal is to help my club excel in Europe and perform well domestically. Retaining our title would be great. It won’t be easy, but we are ready for the challenge.
“We are hungry for top competitions like the Champions League. I am proud to have helped my club qualify.”
Fuseini arrived at Union last summer, who signed him from Sturm Graz for around two million euros. His first year in Belgium was promising, as he notched 11 goals and registered three assists in 44 games.
His speed and desire made him particularly dangerous in transition, something that was particularly evident in the play-offs. He looked back on the title season with great pride. “Everyone was fantastic, and that motivation drove us on. Every position, from goalkeeper to striker, played a crucial role.”
