Teddy Teuma picked up his fourth assist of the Europa League campaign last night as Union St Gilloise drew 1-1 in Leverkusen. The assist to Victor Boniface gave the striker his sixth goal, bringing him level with Marcus Rashford at the top of the scoring charts. The assist also means that Teuma is joint top of the assist charts with Evander Ferreira, the former Midtjylland midfielder who now plays for Portland Timbers. With Ferreira gone, Teuma is now the leader in terms of players remaining. He is above the likes of Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandez, who has three.
Teuma, who has recently fueled speculation about his future at the club after an interview, is exceeding his expected assists. According the FotMob, the Maltese internationals xA is 1.5. When we combine goals and assists, Teuma is level with Boniface and Rashford at the top of the chart with seven.
Despite spending the majority of his career in the outside of Ligue 1 in France, since moving to Belgium the midfielder has become one of the best players in the country. Since 2019 he has helped Union gain promotion back to the first tier, led their title charge in 2021/2022 and is doing the same this year. In 157 appearances for Union he has scored 29 goals.
