Teams have withdrawn offers for Barcelona right-back due to injury problems

After months of speculations regarding his future, Sergi Roberto looks all set to stay put at Barcelona by signing a new contract.
The La Masia graduate has less than two months on his current deal with the club. Negotiations between the Blaugrana and his representatives had gone quiet for months, leading to speculations that the versatile right-back could be on the move in the summer.
When talks did restart, Barça presented the 30-year-old with just a one-year deal with a low wage. It only fueled rumours that the Spaniard could leave on a Bosman deal, as he had better offers from elsewhere.
However, Roberto has decided to accept the terms offered by Barcelona and sign a new contract to prolong his stay at Camp Nou. His priority had always been to continue at the Catalan club, but another factor may have played a part in his decision to accept the offer.
According to Gerard Romero, the teams that had presented Roberto with contract offers ahead of the summer withdrew them due to his injury problems.
The 30-year-old has not played a game since late October last year due to a hamstring injury and recently suffered a setback in his recovery when he was believed to be close to returning. As a result, he has featured just 12 times in all competitions in 2021/22.
Naturally, there will be concerns among teams wanting to sign him, leading to the withdrawal of contract offers. It might have played a hand in Roberto deciding to accept the Blaugrana’s low proposal, reports Romero.
Manager Xavi Hernandez has been a key supporter of the La Masia ace due to his versatility and wants to give him a chance next season. Whether the Spanish international manages to stay fit enough to make the most of his opportunity remains to be seen.
