Inter striker Mehdi Taremi had a hectic afternoon in Iran’s 3-2 victory over North Korea in World Cup qualification on Thursday, as he provided three assists, scored an own goal, earned a penalty but then missed it within the space of an hour.

Three assists, an own goal and a missed penalty for Inter’s Taremi

Taremi lined up alongside former Roma striker Sardar Azmoun in attack for Iran as they rose to a hectic 3-2 victory away against North Korea in Laos.

The Nerazzurri centre-forward provided all three of his nations assists as Iran took a commanding 3-0 lead before half-time.

They were then reduced to 10 men, however, after the sending off of Shoja Khalilzadeh six minutes into the second half.

Taremi’s name appeared on the scoresheet, albeit for North Korea as he managed to steer into his own net after 56 minutes. The scoreline was brought back to 3-2 just three minutes later after Yu-Song Kim’s effort just shy of the hour mark.

Taremi then won his side a slightly soft penalty to restore their two-goal advantage, but the Inter striker saw his spot-kick saved after putting a weak effort down the middle. He was then substituted off after 81 minutes.

Iran will next be in action Kyrgyzstan in another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night, before Taremi returns to domestic action with Inter away against Hellas Verona on November 23.
