Bayern beat the Red Eagles Austria fan club 3-1 in the 13th edition of the club’s Dream Match. But the result wasn’t important less than 24 hours after the team’s sublime 6-0 win over RB Leipzig in their opening Bundesliga game. “It was a great crowd and great to feel the fans’ support up close,” said Jonathan Tah, who enjoyed the encounter with fans just like everyone else in the team. “It was a real festival of football for the fans. It was special and that’s what Bayern is about,” added sporting director Christoph Freund. fcbayern.com rounds up the reaction to a fun day in Imst.
Christoph Freund (sporting director): “It was a real festival of football for the fans. It was special and that’s what Bayern is about. Not many clubs around the world do this. The sporting aspect wasn’t the focus. It was really well organised. Lots of hours of work went into this. Great credit to the organisers. It was a very well-run event. The team had good energy, we’ve got a good atmosphere within the team, and the hunger is there. We’re playing in an intense way and the team is making good progress.”
Jonathan Tah: “It was a great crowd and great to feel the fans’ support up close. It was a great event for everyone. It’s special and shows our appreciation towards the fans and that we know we need their support and appreciate it. Obviously it’s tough after a Bundesliga match the day before, but we do this for the fans and the kids.”
Aleksandar Pavlović: “I was little once, and seeing so many kids here… It’s always special and we enjoy doing it. I know what our team is capable of, so I wasn’t surprised yesterday. We played a great game.”
Lennart Karl: “It was a lot of fun playing with the guys today and against the fans. I try to give my all in training every day and want to keep that up.”
Robbie Schweighofer (fan club chairman): “It’s amazing that I get to play against my favourite club. It fills me with pride. Getting to play up against Jonathan Tah or Minjae Kim is just amazing. This never would’ve been possible without the fan club members and helpers. They’re the real heroes.”
Sophia Schweighofer (organiser): “All the efforts of recent days and weeks is worth it for moments like this. It’s just like I’d imagined it. This stadium normally holds around 1,000 people. We expanded it to 5,000 with extra stands. You need to think about everything as an organiser – accreditation, ball boys, mascots, labels. It was a lot of effort but definitely worth it.”
