The transfer merry-go-round at FC Bayern is starting to turn and the rumour mill is churning: Is centre-back Dayot Upamecano about to leave to make room for a new signing? Jonathan Tah, the defender from Bayer Leverkusen, could follow in his footsteps and strengthen the Munich defence.

FC Bayern are looking ahead to the coming season and possible changes in the defensive centre are being discussed. Jonathan Tah, who has long attracted interest from Munich, could bring a breath of fresh air to the back four. The 28-year-old German international, known for his speed and versatility in defence, is being touted as a potential new signing.

According to Sky, Dayot Upamecano could leave the record champions to clear the way for Tah. The Frenchman, whose time in Munich was characterised by ups and downs, could create the necessary financial leeway. Recently, there have been repeated rumours of Upamecano leaving. Bayern would probably be prepared to pay around 20 million euros for Tah – but Leverkusen would demand around 40 million euros, according to BILD.

Leverkusen want to keep Tah

However, an extension to Tah’s contract, which runs until 2025, is still on the table at the new German champions. Talks with his management have already taken place. Bayern’s sporting management, represented by sporting director Max Eberl and sporting director Christoph Freund, apparently see Tah as a future leader of the defence.

The German international played 40 games for the Werkself in the current season and was one of the absolute top performers. With 3381 minutes played, he was one of the great constants in the Werkself’s outstanding season under coach Xabi Alonso.
