Fridolina Rolfo transfer news is making headlines as the former Barcelona winger has reportedly received a ‘monster offer’ ahead of Sweden’s Euro 2025 quarter-final clash with England.
The 31-year-old winger is currently in Switzerland with the Swedish national team, who are aiming to exact revenge on England after their 4-0 defeat in the semi-finals of Euro 2022.
Rolfo will have her future in the back of her mind, after her four-year stint at Barcelona came to a premature end earlier this month.
Barcelona and Rolfo mutually agreed to terminate her contract early. The Spanish club also came to a mutual termination agreement with England’s Euro 2022 winner Ellie Roebuck.
During her time in Spain, Rolfo won four league titles and two Champions League trophies.
Reports in Sweden have suggested that Fridolina Rolfo could play in her home country to join Malmo FF.
They claim she has received a ‘monster’ offer which would make her the highest-paid player in Damallsvenskan history.
Rolfo last played in Sweden for Linkoping in 2016, before she joined German giants Bayern Munich.
However, with a player of Rolfo’s quality available on a free, it would be no surprise to see other clubs across world football come in for the 31-year-old.
Neither Fridolina Rolfo or Barcelona confirmed why they decided to part ways.
Rolfo though said it was time to take the ‘next step’ on her journey. In a farewell message she said: “All good things come to an end, and now it’s my time to leave this special club and take the next step on my journey.
“I’m so grateful for the past few years with FC Barcelona. For everything we’ve achieved, the titles we’ve won, and the moments I’ve shared with teammates, staff, friends, and all of you – the fans.
“Wearing this shirt and representing this crest has been a dream. Now, looking back, I feel nothing but pride and gratitude for every moment I’ve lived here. Barcelona will always be a part of me. This club, this city, and its people will always have a place in my heart.”
The Athletic have reported that Rolfo’s contract termination was ‘out of financial neccessity’.
That is because the salaries of Barcelona women’s team players count towards LaLiga’s Financial Fair Play rules.
Barcelona have asked LaLiga to change their rules, by separating the budgets from their women’s and youth teams from the men’s first team.
Fridolina Rolfo and Sweden are preparing for a tough quarter-final clash with England at Women’s Euro 2025.
The 31-year-old free agent scored in Sweden’s 4-1 win over Germany which sealed top spot in Group C. She also made her 100th international appearance for Sweden in the same game.
According to the UK’s top betting websites, Sweden are 23/10 underdogs to beat the Lionesses.
England are 10/11 favourites to win the game in 90 minutes, while a draw – which would take the game to extra-time and potentially penalties – is available at 2/1.
